The Carter Memorial UMC strives to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ by providing acts of charity, kindness and friendship to society’s most vulnerable members. We offer many ways to get involved in missions to suit your interests and schedule.
Our Pumpkin Patch sale each October and Christmas Tree Pick-up in January offer 100% of proceeds to global and local charitable organizations. These events allow the community of Needham to get involved in our mission outreach alongside our church members. Additionally, the pumpkins are grown by and purchased from the Navajo Indian tribe in New Mexico, so our sale is also instrumental to the local economy there.
A free weekly dinner at the church, Bread of Life, reaches out to the folks in most need within our own community. Here, volunteers sit alongside our guests to get to know them while providing them with a nourishing, hot meal. Many volunteers enjoy offering one Tuesday per month toward this valuable ministry to folks most in need within our own community.
Other missions include the opportunity to prepare and deliver a meal each month to Rosie’s Place, a shelter in Boston serving women and children in great need; along with various collection opportunities throughout the year for: UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), Needham Community Council, Cradles to Crayons, Rosie’s and others. Our church also has a tradition of taking 1-2 domestic mission trips per year and visiting local charities to offer day long services that may include repair work or other related tasks.
We are pleased to offer (2-3) scholarships to local graduating seniors who demonstrate a passion to serve others in most need.
